Fresh warning on drink spikingNovember 1, 2004
THREE woman reported being sick and one a possible sexual assault after drinking at bars at Manly on Sydney's northern beaches last weekend, prompting police to renew warnings about drink spiking.Police said two women, aged 33 and 31, were drinking at a bar in Manly on Saturday night when they were approached by a man described as being about 35 years old, with fair complexion, bald head, unshaven and with an English accent.
He accompanied them to a nightclub in Sydney Road, Manly, and the two women drank a glass of wine each, felt sick and had no recollection of the rest of the night.
The 33-year-old woke partially dressed in her home and believed she had been sexually assaulted.
She reported the matter to police.
The second woman was unsure whether she was assaulted.
In a separate incident on Sunday night, a 34-year-old woman from the NSW north coast was drinking at another Manly hotel and was given a glass of wine by a man described as having a dark complexion, slight build, Indian appearance and aged in his mid-20s.
She reported feeling sick and said her lips and tongue began to swell and foam poured from her nose.
Police said the man then grabbed her and tried to take her to his two mates.
She escaped to the bathroom and was later found by friends and taken to hospital.
Manly detectives are investigating.
Detective Superintendent David Laidlaw urged women to take extra precautions when they are out drinking.
"We urge people not to take drinks from strangers and keep an eye on your drinks when they are at a hotel or bar," he said.

I'D LOVE TO KNOW IF DRINK SPIKING IS "BIG" IN OTHER COUNTRIES. IT APPEARS TO BECOMING RATHER A SERIOUS PROBLEM IN THE LAND DOWN UNDER.
