Man charged for biting policeman
January 7, 2005

A MAN accused of biting a Northern Territory policeman on the thumb when he tried to arrest him has been charged with assault.

A NT Police spokesman said today they were called to a house in Darwin's north about 7pm CDT yesterday following reports of a domestic disturbance.

The spokesman said a man they wanted to question fled the scene but was found a short distance away.

There was a scuffle and the man allegedly bit the male officer on the thumb. He was treated at Royal Darwin Hospital and discharged.

Police said a 45-year-old man was charged with assaulting police and escaping lawful custody. He will appear in court on a date to be fixed.

Jack ~ Lmao, my life would be so meaningless without you in it. Yes, its an aussie term. In the States, most courts have a "person" who sits next to the judge when a person is being indicted or put before the grand jury. That "person" works out the date/time that the offender is to reappear. In Australia, its done behind closed doors by the Dept of public prosecutions in each state. The cops,me and other legal personell are then notified along with the offender as the date they will be required to appear again.
We had our first "shooting galleries" open a few years back as a trial run in N.S.W. It was very successful however public opinion and government backlash closed them down after a short period of time.
Now, this guy involved in this case, no way would he be a junkie, but i wouldn't mind betting his had a go at chroming.
Jack i know your comment was mostly tongue in cheek....but i thought i'd give ya the serious answer this time :o)

Gem ~ LMAO!

Brian ~ Trust me Brian, givin any other State here, it wouldn't surprise me. This State however has its own set of legislation givin the large indigenous population, and i better not say anymore...LOL.

Jack ~ N.S.W is New South Wales.is a State in Australia...Sydney is the capital city.
Chroming is very popular with indigenous communities here. It involves getting a spray can of paint ( usually very el cheapo like $1 )spraying its contents into a plastic bag and sniffing it. They do the same with petrol and lighter fluids.
Shooting galleries here were started up to give addicts a clean environment with free syringes.
As for the last query....LOL i aint commenting cause i will get in trouble!!!XX

Brian ~ Chrome and chroming have many terms here in Oz too. The one i mentioned was just one of them. When i was at the university library here i overheard someone ask for a book called "burning chrome"....it stuck in my head and i am still wondering what the book is about!

Hi Michelle. Hey look at me! I'm on the internet! Wheeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

"a date to be fixed." I remember taking a cat once to the vet on a date to be fixed. I don't remember the date; it was in July I think a few years ago. Anyway, the cat was "fixed". She could no longer have kittens. It cost me $60.
