GOALS, SET A GOAL,WRITE IT DOWN, AND RELEASE THE OUTCOME. SMALL STEPS MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.

CHILDREN with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder could be four times more likely to have mental health problems later in life.Research presented at a British conference yesterday has also revealed that the brains of children with ADHD are different from those of children without the disorder.
ADHD affects an estimated 5 per cent of Australian children and is characterised by restlessness, impulsive behaviour and a short attention span.
Eric Taylor, of the Institute of Psychiatry at London's Kings College, said yesterday that research into brain scans of 350 children found the areas of the brain involved in self-control were smaller in children with ADHD. Professor Taylor said children with ADHD had a higher risk of developing a mental disorder or substance abuse problem.
"Those not treated are more likely to turn to anti-social behaviour or self-abuse," he told the British Association for the Advancement of Science's annual meeting in Exeter.

Commenting on the research, Curtin University professor of psychology David Hay said that, contrary to popular perception, children with ADHD who were treated with stimulant medication had less risk of becoming substance abusers later in life.
Professor Hay said children with ADHD who were not treated were more likely to partake in risky behaviour, including substance abuse, when they were older.

Whilst i agree with most of this, i still believe it is way over diagnosed in Australia. I think at least 1-2% is bad parenting. One only has to go into some of the homes to find....single parents, bad diet, parents that don't spend time with their kids, let the kids stay up late on school nights, parents that couldn't careless what their kids are doing. The list goes on. Remove these kids from the environment and they do so much better.....proven FACT.

I'm not sure of the specifics but my neice is diagnosed with ADHD and whilst she is only 10 she already presents with symptoms of OCD and phobic tendencies. I had assumed it was coincidental, perhaps not.
