Prisoner for life

Ajudge today sentenced a man to 1,300 years in prison after he confessed to raping or beating 10 girls and women.
Among his victims were two 11-year-old sisters and their grandmother.
Brent Brents, 36, took responsibility for the attacks between October 2004 and February 18 this year.
District Judge Robert Hyatt, who told Brents he had caused an "epidemic of fear to the community" in and around Denver.
The judge handed down the maximum sentence for each of 68 counts, which included sexual assault, attempted murder, kidnapping and burglary.
District attorney's spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said the total sentence was 1,319 years and he will never reach parole eligibility.
Brents was linked the crimes through DNA tests.
He had previously served time in prison for raping a young boy and a girl.
Brents still faces eight more criminal counts including sexual assault, kidnapping and sexual assault on a child.
This really amazes me. The sentencing disparages between USA and Australia is incredible. Never has there been sentencing of this kind in Australia. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, this type of criminal needs to be locked up and the key thrown away. Americas sentencing has always been tougher than Australia's, many Australians would agree with the severity, some perhpas not. To me, it just seems surreal.

till next time, Michelle.
