AIMS
Iam not too certain how many people chose to take advantage of AIMS, open day yesterday, but there appeared to be thousands.
Infact there were so many people, we had to park 10kms away and catch a free bus to the site. It dropped us off at the Jetty first at Cape Ferguson. Here, we wandered down the jetty, had a look at the research vessel, saw the turtle and many schools of fish, including sharks.
Quite frankly, i could have spent the whole day there, just sitting and staring at the sea, and the goings on in it and surrounding it. Next time........
We jumped back on the bus, along with 50 others and the busdriver, of whom i didn't get a good look at but i bet he was a relation of "Otto" off The Simpsons. I was forced to stand, as the bus was full. I had a vice like grip, i tell you, going round the bends at a million miles an hour, whilst "A" had great enjoyment giggling at the expressions on my face!
We ventured into the different display tents, coral, fish, sponges, mangrove trees, etc and then on into the main building. Here, was housed the main labs used for research, and the huge marine library.
We then tackled the sand dunes down to Turtle Beach. It's the institutes own private beach, so as you can imagine it is rather pristine.
Our legs were killing us, so we didn't wander too far, before making our way back to the cue for the bus back to our car. We were definately blessed with the weather, today is very overcast, with light drizzle. All in all, a great day :)
Research Vessel.
