Ephemera
Let me tell you, if the trouble i have encountered trying to get this damn post on here is any indication of the day i am about to have, i think i need to stay in bed!
Wow, it certainly seems ages since i have posted. Kind of intentional, i wanted to leave the "Katrina" post there at the top for a few days.
So my American & Canadian friends, how was your long weekend? I hope you all time to relax with family and friends and put the thought of work out of your heads for a few days :)
I had a most relaxing weekend, "A" and i had breakfast at the beach in town on Sunday morning.
This particular beach is very popular with locals as it has 2.5km of 'sidewalk' over looking the Coral Sea, and is used by skaters, joggers and walkers. Combined with a number of bars and restaurants, makes it a pleasant place to be.
For the next month, it plays host to an "Ephemera", an art/sculpture exhibition. It's all art and sculptures, tongue in cheek, but yet taken seriously as all 40 odd pieces are placed for auction at the end of the exhibit, with monies raised going to charities. The pieces themselves are placed in weird and wonderful places throughout the 2.5km sidewalk, but you need to look for them as they may be up a tree.......out to sea...........on the grass etc. Last year, a 5metre snake made from plastic shopping bags raised $1,200 for charity!
Not too sure what these string balls are meant to signify, but they are made from recycled hemp.
Painted flowers, the colors were so bright, yet unfortunately my Kodak 4mg could not pick them up too well.
Oh great, apologies, i don't know why this photo is on here twice, there is only one link....grrrrrr, Blogger hates my guts today.
Our favorite of all the pieces was a 5metre high yellow rubber duck placed out by the pier in the middle of the ocean, if you click the image below you may get to see it.
They had some fun pieces such as scarecrows, a porcelain walrus, wire framed animals, they had a dozen fishing poles placed vertically out to sea, another 6 vertically in the sand with tropical colored shirts tied to them flapping in the wind! Giant butterflys in trees, metal coconuts placed under palm trees that incedently i had a photo of but "photobucket ' ate my link LOL, it truly was a a fun exhibit. Sadly though, it was time to head home!
till next time, Michelle.
