REFLECT, KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN, JOY LIVES IN SMALL PLACES.

A CONVICTED rapist who fled Melbourne without serving his sentence has finally been arrested after living openly in Hobart for six months.Timothy Trethewie walked free from the County Court in April on a six-month intensive corrections order, but almost immediately breached the strict conditions by leaving Victoria.
Although a warrant was issued for his arrest, Trethewie did not live like a fugitive in his home town.
Instead of looking over his shoulder, he made no attempt to hide and claimed the dole at his local Centrelink office.
But within three days of the Herald Sun contacting the Corrections Department and Victoria Police, a detective was sent to Tasmania to arrest Trethewie and bring him back to Melbourne.

His victim, Carole (not her real name), was angry her attacker was not jailed and furious he fled.
Carole said she was told it was unlikely Trethewie, 36, would be extradited back to Victoria because he did not receive a jail term.
"I find it very strange that they suddenly get their bums into gear after I spoke to the media about my case," she said.
She believes the rape was treated less seriously because her attacker was a former boyfriend.
Trethewie pleaded guilty to rape in April and County Court Judge Jane Campton sentenced him.
The maximum penalty for rape is 25 years.
After evading jail, Trethewie attended just one ICO appointment and was reported for breaching the conditions of his ICO.
Carole is distraught and disappointed with the legal system.
"I've lost all faith in the legal system, the courts, the police . . ." she said. "I was always under the impression rape is a very, very serious thing. If you commit a crime like that you go to prison."
Carole admitted she behaved erratically in the months after the attack and at one point even went back into a relationship with Trethewie. But she was grieving the death of her mother and believed she needed him because he was her only support in Melbourne.
Carole said she knew many people would have little sympathy for her because of her behaviour. But she said she realised she made a terrible mistake and took the tough decision to press charges.
The case took 30 months to get to court partly because Trethewie treated the criminal justice system with contempt.
He regularly failed to attend court, jumped bail, changed lawyers, changed his plea and ended up costing taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars. Every time he was arrested for failing to appear in court he was bailed again.
The judge ordered Trethewie to have drug and alcohol counselling, psychological treatment and attend a sex offenders program. He was to commit no offences and was not allowed to leave Victoria.
Carole said she and Tre thewie lived together for nearly 18 months before they parted in late 2001.
Just over a month after the break-up, Trethewie came to her new flat, she believed, to talk about paying $2000 he owed her.
Carole had been at a party and admits she was drunk. Trethewie helped her to bed and then raped her later in the night.
A spokeswoman for Victoria Police could not explain why it took nearly six months to make a decision to bring Trethewie back.
"Extraditions take a while to get authorised," she said. "They've got to look at costs and how likely it is he's in the location that he's supposed to be." Herald Sun

Wilst this guy is an absolute waste of space, jail is not going to do a thing for him. I totally agree with the judges decision...this moron needs all the counselling he can get and perhaps a hefty fine. Yes, he shouldn't have been allowed to flee states.....the system screwed up there, i say leave the idiot where he is ad keep him under survellience and make sure he attends all the couselling programs.

Carol you did not deserve to be raped...........but you too need counselling, you are obviously "not all there".
